This spring, a new life joins our family. Sumida Aquarium is pleased to announce that a Magellanic penguin chick was born on Friday, April 24, 2026, and has been named "Jinbei".
Jinbei is the first baby for both his parents, Happi and Monaka. His name comes from the traditional Japanese garment called "jinbei", loved and cherished since the Edo period.
When he pecked at the inside of his eggshell to crack it, it sounded like he was sticking out his tongue making a cute "bee!" sound. We hope Jinbei will grow up to be a beloved presence by everyone.
